People In Your Neighbourhood
|
Hi all Members of the Sugarlicks family have been working hard over the last few months with the British Council New Zealand, on one of their main events for 2009, called "People In Your Neighbourhood". You can read more about the project here. The project is part of the British Council's global initiative to help create diverse and inclusive cities, and follows on from previous work in 2008 in this area. PIYN involves aspiring ethnic urban performers working together on the project. You may have seen the posters in 6 different languages posted around Auckland city over the past week. We are honoured to have members of the esteemed UK string collective Urban Soul Orchestra as part of the project, which includes a recorded album and live shows in Auckland and at Womad Taranaki. USO (Urban Soul Orchestra) - if anyone remembers Soul2Soul, or more modern outfits like Nightmares on Wax, Incognito, and Nitin Sawney - you will recognise the unmistakable sound of USO's string lushness. The album itself has been recorded as a creative commons project, and as such, you can download the full album here. For the show, we have 25 places left on the doorlist for the Auckland event, so please reply promptly if you would like one of these.
We hope to see you there. |
