Digging out and digitising older Sugarlicks and Khuja flyers is a process of reminiscing over some great nights and events with the extended Sugarlixx Fam.

This first one is from way back – in the 90s Downtown Brown and crew used to run dope deep basement parties for beatheadz at Otago University in New Zealand’s Southern City Dunedin. 1995 – when flyers were photocopied, and “Release the Pressure”, and Wall Of Sound tracks were the biggest tunes of the night.

Next up is a flyer from a weekly night at Khuja Lounge involving fresh talent from Auckland City … this was a weekly event that carried on from the Sugarlicks monthly gigs.

Next flyer involves artwork from Wellington native (now Melbourne based), Otis Chamberlain (Mephisto Jones), and Auckland soul music masters Manuel Bundy, Chris Cox (Frank Booker), Cherie Mathieson & Isaac Aesili.

The above flyer is for an art exhibition for singer songwriter, artist and all-round renaissance man Brother J, and his Maori-centric artwork. The pictured artwork apparently shows J with his then flatmates Tim Sulusi & Levani Vosasi.

Lastly a couple of flyers show the global and intercultural nature of all the work done over the years at Saama, Sugarlicks and the Khuja Lounge (1997-2002), including gigs for Tokyo native Yoichi Shiba, an Arab flyer for the Lebanese Family associated with Khuja, & lastly the flyer from the final night and fifth birthday of the original Khuja team (before it sold hands the next week after this party). Ahh the memories ….
