Substax are pioneers of breakbeat and ‘electro soul’, a sound which fuses the key genres of electro and soul.

Substax formed in London, now based in Auckland their debut Electro Soul Plane incorporates deep production and drums with spacey electro synths and vocals, with tempos ranging from uptempo breaks to moody downtempo slices of electronic soul. A truly beautiful taste of NZ’s new electronic sound.

The audio trio of Nick Farrands, Jason Johnston & Claudia Gunn, released their debut album Electro Soul Plane with Sugarlicks Recordings Aotearoa in June 2005. The long awaited album is a subtle blend of future soul and breakbeat funk.

The band are currently in the studio working on their second album.
